On June 5, 2025, the world focused on Mother Earth, and here at the ISCI Foundation, we jumped into action! To celebrate World Environment Day, our amazing team of volunteers and interns joined forces with enthusiastic students at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 5 in Gwalior for a tree plantation drive. It wasn't just about putting saplings in the ground; it was about planting hope, nurturing responsibility, and fostering a deep love for nature in the hearts of tomorrow's leaders.

With shovels ready and a shared purpose, we carefully placed young Amla, Rose, Baheda, and Nirgundi saplings into the soil. Each tiny plant represents more than just a tree – it's a step towards a cleaner, greener, more sustainable future for all of us. This initiative truly showcases our belief that real environmental care starts with understanding and active participation, especially for the young minds who will inherit this beautiful planet. The pure joy on the students' faces, the incredible teamwork among our dedicated volunteers, and the vibrant potential in every single sapling made that day incredibly special and inspiring.
For us at ISCI Foundation, protecting our environment isn't just something we do once a year. It's woven into the very fabric of our mission: to create a healthy and fair world. We know that a flourishing planet is the bedrock for everyone's well-being and for truly sustainable communities. Tackling challenges like deforestation, losing our precious biodiversity, and climate change isn't just important; it's absolutely crucial if we want a future where every person can live a healthy and happy life.
Our environmental efforts are tightly linked with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 13 (Climate Action) – which is all about taking urgent steps against climate change – and SDG 15 (Life on Land), focused on protecting and restoring our natural ecosystems. By caring for our environment, we're directly helping the planet, promoting ecological balance, and building stronger, more resilient communities. Our tree plantation drive at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 5 is a perfect example of how we turn big global goals into powerful local impact.
World Environment Day 2025: Where Seeds of Change Took Root
The energy at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 5 was incredible! Students, teachers, and ISCI volunteers, all united by a common goal, came together to transform a part of the school grounds into a vibrant, green haven. Our volunteers, always ready to lead, patiently showed everyone the best way to plant, making sure each sapling got the perfect start. Laughter and focused effort filled the air as young hands dug into the soil, gently positioned the Amla, Rose, Baheda, and Nirgundi saplings, and then carefully covered their roots before giving them a drink of water.
This hands-on experience was designed to be deeply educational. It taught students not just how to plant, but the profound responsibility that comes with it. Naturally, conversations started about all the amazing things trees do – giving us clean air and shade, providing homes for wildlife, and even offering nourishing fruits like Amla and Baheda. By involving the students directly, our goal was to instill eco-friendly habits for life, raising a generation that truly understands and cherishes its connection to nature. The teamwork was truly heartwarming, with older students guiding younger ones, and volunteers working seamlessly with the school community. It was a beautiful display of what we can achieve when we all come together, proving that collective action can lead to joyful and meaningful change. You could see the immediate impact not just in the newly planted saplings, but in the invigorated spirit and renewed sense of purpose that filled the whole atmosphere.
ISCI's Bigger Green Picture: It's More Than Just One Day
Our World Environment Day plantation drive is a vital thread in the much larger, rich tapestry of ISCI Foundation’s extensive environmental programs. Our vision goes far beyond a single event; it embraces a complete strategy to restore and protect our natural world for the long term.
Reforestation Program: Seed Balls for Thriving Forests
Working hand-in-hand with Jodo India, our Reforestation Program uses a simple yet incredibly effective and community-inclusive method: seed balls. We get adolescent girls and community members involved in preparing these nutrient-rich spheres. What’s crucial is that we only use seeds from native trees. This ensures we boost local biodiversity and restore natural habitats without introducing any unwanted species. These seed balls are then scattered in deforested areas, identified and mapped out with the help of forest officers, allowing us to carefully track their progress.
And the impact has been truly significant:
We've dispersed over 205,000 seed balls across various deforested regions.
An impressive 70,000 of these seed balls have successfully germinated and grown into healthy, sustainable plants, giving us a fantastic 30% germination rate. This is making a huge difference in restoring our forests and boosting climate resilience.

This program also includes a vital social aspect: 1,500 adolescent girls who participate in making the seed balls also receive crucial menstrual hygiene awareness sessions led by gynecologists, and we provide them with reusable sanitary napkins. This beautifully connects environmental action with empowering health and dignity.
Plantation & Maintenance Program: Nurturing Growth for Lasting Impact
We firmly believe that putting a tree in the ground is just the very first step. The real challenge, and our deep commitment, is ensuring it survives and thrives! Our Plantation & Maintenance Program embodies this belief. This year alone, we've planted over 400 saplings in various spots across Gwalior, carefully choosing timber, flowering, and fruit-bearing trees to bring diverse benefits to both the environment and local communities. Our clear policy is to care for and maintain every single sapling for a full year. This involves regular watering, monitoring, and nurturing them until they’re strong enough to grow independently. This rigorous approach dramatically increases their survival rates and guarantees long-term environmental benefits. It’s truly rewarding to see many fruit-bearing plants from previous years now mature and producing fruits, offering essential nutrition and food security to families in lower economic sections of society.
Let’s keep growing together—one tree, one school, one community, one day at a time. Your contribution truly helps us plant not just trees, but lasting hope for generations to come.
Stay connected with ISCI Foundation and join us on this journey that brings hope and comfort to those who need it most.
